So, you're new to the sport of Youth Ice Hockey...

If you are new to the sport of ice hockey or you are interested in finding a top-notch, community-based youth ice hockey program for your son or daughter, then you've come to the right place!

Northwestern Connecticut Youth Hockey is the premier youth ice hockey program in western Connecticut. Based at the Canterbury School in New Milford and the Gunnery in Washington, programs are available for all levels of hockey and skating ability from beginners through travel level.

The following equipment is mandatory for all hockey participants (Learn to Skate participants need only a helmet, gloves and skates):


  • Helmet with full face shield or cage
  • Neck guard
  • Mouth guard
  • Shoulder pads
  • Jersey of your choice (plus, NWCYH will provide these for Intro to Hockey and Mite Cross Ice League participants)
  • Elbow pads
  • Hockey pants
  • Male athletic cup or Female Pelvic Protector
  • Garter belt (if not included in the athletic cup or pelvic protector)
  • Hockey socks
  • Hockey gloves
  • Hockey skates
  • Stick

If you are unsure about the proper equipment to purchase for your child, Northwestern Connecticut Youth Hockey recommends Wesco Sports Center in Brookfield, CT.  Wesco Sports Center has supported our program for many years and offers a wide variety of both new and used hockey equipment. In addition, volunteers will be available at the start of the season to assist you with dressing your child.
